This year our Christmas was not quite what we had planned. Due to Trent's 65 hour work weeks and the cost of driving to Montana and back only to stay for 1 1/2 days we cancelled our original plans to spend the holidays with Trent's family the day before we were going to leave. It was a very tough decision and the kids were NOT happy about it at first. We decided to make the most of it and try to create as many beautiful memories as possible.
Our Christmas Eve was wonderful. Trent cooked a delicious Portuguese dinner for the family and the kids and I made some cookies (that didn't look very pretty) for Santa. We opened our Christmas Eve present, which of course was pajamas.
After everyone was ready for bed we had a wonderful little family program. We sang hymns and read scriptures. It really was a beautiful and spiritual moment. Even Blake tried to sing along. After the program we had to check on the computer and see how close Santa was to our house.
Trent read "Twas the Night Before Christmas", Ashlyn wrote a letter to Santa and we set out our sad little cookies, carrots (1 for each reindeer) and a glass of milk.
The kids were so excited for Christmas I wasn't sure if they would fall asleep or not. Although we really missed seeing our families it really was nice to spend this time together with just our little family. We were able to really focus our attention on the excitement of each child and have great conversations that I will cherish forever.

I bet it was a lot of fun to be with just your immediate family. No stresses and long trips to deal with.
Christmas with your own little family is always the best, even when there are just two of you. We really missed seeing you, though.
